I'm not the biggest fan of the Sam Raimi films. (I mean I liked them well enough but I didn't think they were anything outstanding or special) but even I thought a reboot was too soon. That aside, I still went in with an open mind since I really liked the cast (better than the Raimi films). Overall, I say it's a pretty darn good but far from perfect effort. First off, Andrew Garfield makes for a far more appealing Peter Parker/Spider-Man than Tobey Maguire. Another improvement is the fact that Spider-Man looks a bit more organic. I always felt the Raimi ones looked a bit CGi-esque and therefore a little less believable. I think this would be a far bigger hit and far bigger praise if the Raimi films didn't exist.

Not that I'm necessarily defending the Raimi films (I do prefer The Amazing Spider-Man in all honesty), but would we have gotten this movie had the Raimi films not existed?

Conundrum?

I'm with Chris. I think the first and (especially) second film captured what is so great about spiderman. the third was a clusterfuck of which we will never speak again.

this new one looks like a cash grab rehash, but I know I'll eventually check it out.

off topic, this week's guest was pretty obnoxious. very much "that guy". u know, the friend of a friend, or coworker, u get stuck talking to who just irritates the piss out of you but you try to remain polite. so when he said he disagreed with a lot of the lists in the film guide I knew it must be a quality book.

I had several problems with the online review of The Amazing Spider-man. At the end of the day a man's opinion is his opinion, but there were things in this review that were factually wrong. It seemed that he let his boredom consume his experience and he missed plot points like the fact that Peter was actively being a bully to all of those blonde haired criminals and the look on his face when he realized during the Stacy family dinner. As a Spider-man fan I felt that this movie did a much better job at capturing the characters than the first two Raimi films (which I loved.
