This was inspired by Episode 116 with Jackie Kashian. It was a great idea for her to bring the actual DVDs in to look at while discussing, and I realized as I was listening that her collection must be fascinating to dig through.

So in the spirit of that episode, and hopefully I interpreted the idea of the DVD closet correctly or I run the risk of embarrassing myself here with my weirdo collection, I decided to post pictures of my own DVDs and talk about the ones that are particular favorites of mine. Some of these should probably go in the guilty pleasures thread... but, I am declaring this a Safe Space, much like Jackie's Dork Forest!

I'd be really interested in seeing others' as well, I love looking at pictures of people's collections.

Yes those are two copies of "300". I thought I had lost it or lent it out to a friend at one point, so I picked up another copy, then I found the original.

Chasing Amy - this is the only Criterion DVD I own, I'm sad to say. I'll probably fix that this summer though, Barnes & Noble has a 50% off sale every year around this time, and I'd love to have a copy of Seven Samurai.

Excess Baggage - firmly in the "guilty pleasures" category. It was the only movie put out by Alicia Silverstone's production company "First Kiss Productions". I had a major crush on Alicia Silverstone starting as a teenager, as you can see from a few of her other vehicles on display. Unfortunately as I get older, a lot of her movies get less watchable (except this one and Clueless, I will always stand by Clueless). Excess Baggage is still quite enjoyed by me too, she sulks exquisitely, and even Benicio del Toro's sleepwalking delivery adds it's own weird charm.

Jin-Roh - An often glacially paced animated movie that I still really love, it has a great story about military fascism and humanity.

Tomb Raider - another guilty pleasure. Is it a great movie, no, is it thoroughly enjoyed by me, yes!

I didn't realize until after I took the picture that "Narc" and "Unforgiven" were cut off on the sides. Both are really good movies.

Perfect Blue - another good adult animated movie, it's a great psychological thriller.

Resident Evil - another guilty pleasure, slow motion zombie dogs and inexplicable security systems with deadly lasers that fire in dodgeable patterns aside.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance - I recommend this to everyone I get a chance to. Most people know Oldboy from the same director, this is the first in that loosely connected "Vengeance Trilogy".

Thin Red Line - still haven't gotten through it, still firmly a member of Team Graham with regard to one Terrence Malick!

I really need to dust.

Some of them will be sold off and upgraded to Blu-ray soon though.

I completely forgot about DVDAF, that's a much easier way to do this. I don't know if mine's up to date or not anymore though: thegrayman.dvdaf.com/owned

That's a nice selection of Criterion's you have. Kurosawa, Bergman, definitely much more of a refined collection than mine. Also I didn't realize how many of Wes Anderson's movies got a Criterion release.

And now out of all that cinematic history you've collected, I want to bring up: Monster House! I really enjoyed that movie, it's a good animated movie that's perfect for putting on around Halloween. It seemed to get mostly overlooked, even if it's not quite up there with the Pixar stuff.
